January Favorites

January 28, 2015

With January slowly coming to an end, I found that there was no way to end the month than with a monthly favorites post. January promptly follows the most wonderful time of the year (Christmas, of course), so many of the things on this list are Christmas gifts that I’ve received from loved ones. These items have just made me smile all throughout January, and now I want to share them with you!

1. Daniel Wellington Watch

I can assure you that I have not taken this watch off since the moment I got it. I opened it on Christmas morning, and it has lived on my wrist ever since. It’s a simple, clean, and classic looking watch. It’s an understated accessory, which is exactly why I like it. People rely on their phones to check the time so much, that the importance of watch has gone under the radar. I always appreciate it when I see someone wearing a watch because, to me, it means he or she values the importance of being on time (or at least almost on time, if you’re anything like me). Pick yourself up one of these cool watches here!

2. Fun Books

These two books were given to me by two of my very good friends. The first book was given to me by my friend Taryn. She and I both love London. We’re fascinated by the city and all it has to offer, and both plan on studying abroad there next year! This book is not your typical guide book to London, though. It lists the coolest places to go in the city, and so much more!

The second book was given to me by my roommate. She and I have a very unique shared sense of humor. So what better way to capture that than in a book that’s entirely about shit. It’s not what you’re picturing. It’s a  book that offers clever sayings and responses to random shit that people say.

3. Candles With Cool Sayings

This was another gift given to me by Taryn. She knows that I’ve been trying to find my inner calm in the new year, so she got me this cool candle! The saying alone will make anyone smile, but the scent is just as great. Unfortunately, I am not at the liberty of burning the candle because of dorm room policy. As soon as I move back home for the summer though, that candle will be lit all the time!

4. Funky Rings

I’ve been wearing these rings for the entire month. The little slip knot ring I bought from a vendor that came to campus in the fall, and the funky shaped one I got in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico! I spent an entire afternoon looking for the store that sold this ring, since my friend had told me about the store, but conveniently forgot the name of it. I love both these rings because they’re easy to wear, and don’t tarnish (one is made of sterling silver while the other is made of aluminum). After having worn these rings for quite some time now, I’ve decided to stop shopping for rings at big name stores. I’m going to start buying my rings from vendors at markets and obscure shops from now on.  By doing so, I think I’ll find even more funky rings that have an even more unique aspect to them.

5. Blend Co. Superfood Blend

I had heard of Blend Co. through a few blogs prior to actually ordering it. The reviews were pretty great, and the reviews on the Blend Co. website were even better. The superfood blend is just that: a blend of superfoods. It has acaí, cacao nibs, pumpkin seeds, and more! It’s a healthy and tasty additive to smoothies, or sprinkled on top of an English muffin with peanut butter and jelly (I make this for breakfast whenever I have an early class). Pick yourself up your own superfood blend here!

6. Lokai Bracelet

Have you heard of Lokai? Well, if you haven’t, you should. It’s an awesome brand that sells super cool bracelets. The best part, however, isn’t the bracelet; it’s what it represents. Loki bracelets represent the balance between the good and bad in life. The white bead holds water from Mount Everest, the highest point on earth, to represent all the times in life when we feel as if we’re on top of the world. The black bead holds mud from the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, to represent the moments when we feel incredibly down in our lives. I wear the bracelet as a constant reminder that life is about striking a balance between the good and the bad. It’s all just one big balancing act. Find out more about the Lokai philosophy here.

Those are my top toys, gifts, and goodies (whatever you want to call them) from January. With warmer weather around the corner (hopefully sooner rather than later), more exciting favorite things will be coming to the blog! Stay tuned!
