What inspires you?

February 19, 2015

Recently, I’ve been thinking about what inspires me. In wake of having filled out a million and one internship applications, and having written even more cover letters, the question of what inspires me keeps coming up.

I’m stumped. For the past week, I couldn’t come up with anything that inspired me.

Sure, there are plenty of things that have inspired me throughout my life, but none that could come to mind on the spot. So I took some time to stop and think (which is a rarity these days). I’m constantly being pulled in a million different directions, and finally needed time to just think for myself.

I thought about what inspires me. I remembered a quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald that I had read once. This was it:

“I’m not sure what I’ll do, but- well, I want to go places and see people. I want my mind to grow. I want to live where things happen on a big scale.”

I remember the first time that I read that quote, and I felt that it described me perfectly. I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to end up somewhere where big things happen, where I can meet new people and discover new things, and most importantly, a place that I could grow in. It inspired me to “start getting my ducks in a row,” and to hit the ground running.

I still have no idea where that quote will get me one day, but I know it’s how I want to describe my life. So I took it upon myself to search for more inspiration in everyday things. In the other blogs that I read, in my friends and family, and most importantly, in myself. Where else can the best inspiration come from other than from yourself?

So I’m buckling down, organizing my things, and getting it together. Inspiration comes in all shapes and forms, and it’s always there. Next time you find yourself stumped about what inspires you, remember, it’s all right in front of you. You just have to look for it.

What inspires you guys these days?
